Tanzania Government Domestic Debt Dashboard

Problem

Tanzania’s domestic debt figures are published quarterly across separate Bank of Tanzania bulletins, with each edition revising the last, making it hard to see how the debt stock and its ownership have actually changed over time.

Approach

Extracted and reconciled two tables (debt by holder category and debt by instrument) across multiple overlapping bulletin editions, resolving revisions and transcription conflicts, then modelled them in Power BI against a shared date table.

Outcome

A two-page dashboard covering Dec 2022 to Jun 2026, showing domestic debt growing 53.8% to TZS 39.3 trillion while the holder mix stayed broadly stable, surfacing a marked swap between the Bank of Tanzania and pension funds through 2025, and a steady shift toward longer-dated bonds.
